Learning about different religions

Y1 have continued to learn about children from different religions. Looking at Islamic artefacts and playing a roll & read game helped us understand more. Avi, our school persona doll, also visited us and talked about being a Jew. Designing our own matchbox mezuzahs was great fun.

Year 3 have learnt about why giving to the poor (Zakat) is so important to Muslims. We then discussed whether it’s everyone duty to help the poor or should we have the right to choose what to do with the money we earn.

Yr2 looked at a variety of Rakhi bracelets with Mrs Jummun as part of learning about the Hindu festival of Raksha Bandhan. We also learnt a new song. Making our own Rakhi bracelets was great fun but we did find plaiting quite a challenge!

Yr3 started learning about how and why prayer is important to Muslims by looking at some prayer mats his week in RE. With the help of our Muslim personal doll the class also learnt about the sequence of movements involved in Salah.

Yr5. As part of our topic on harvest festivals, Year 5 have been learning about the feast of Sukkot. During this festival Jews create Sukkahs and live in them for a week. We decided we wanted to try, so we found logs, sticks and branches and built our own Sukkah shelters.
