Class 4 (Year One)
Autumn Term 2009
This term our topics have been especially History and Science based - 'Toys' and then 'Light and Dark'. We have enjoyed a visit from the Peterborough Museum, when we compared toys from the past with those of the present, and we also had a visit form a puppeteer! We even made our own stick puppets and finger puppets, and junk model toys.We investigated toys that require a 'push and a pull' as well as those that need ramps for speed!
We have been learning about correctly using full stops and capital letters, as we have written postcards; as well as instructions for the 'cheese stars' and 'cakes' we baked, and the clay pots we made. We have also wrtten about the nocturnal animals that we have learnt about, and we have rewrtten many tales, such as that of the Gruffalo. (We visited Werrington library, too, for a 'Gruffalo Stomp' morning!) Lots of reading also takes place, and we have weekly talks by individuals, (some superb presentations!)
In Numeracy, we have been learning about Time, Money, and adding and subtracting to name but a few themes!
All the class love going in the roleplay area - it has turned from a doctor's surgery to a toy shop, to a cave with torches, ( for investigating shadows!)
ICT is almost a daily event - with word processing, art, numeracy and music packages.
PE is currently 'Outdoor balls skills' ; RE was Birth/babies, and is now Birthdays and then Advent/Christmas.
Music, PSHE (Every Child Matters) and Art/CDT are also highly enjoyed - come visit our room to see examples of the wonderful work produced by members of class 4 for 2009/2010! 'Sam Bear', Mrs Harrison, Miss Robbins, Mrs Gwyer and all the children will be pleased to see you!
